I know for many of you it is hard to plan for your Wedding, Where do you start? It seems overwhelming. Who do you trust?

I'm constantly being asked who the good vendors are, so instead of saying who isn't a good selection, I created a site for Brides with the Best of the Best in Eugene.. This will grow a bit, but It's a great place to start EugeneWeddings.com which is formed by Invitation only means you can't go wrong with anyone in this group.

In terms of photography, it is a virtual land mine out there. So many new "photographers" who recently got a digital camera and are throwing their hat into the ring. It seems every year at the Wedding shows I have a recent bride crying when looking at my work, as they hired the least expensive photographer and all their pictures were dark or blurry.

Don't settle on a cheap Photographer that you think is within your budget, but in the end you come away unhappy with the final results, where is the value in that?

The reason some photographers less expensive? They don't have the experience, so they lower the price to learn their craft. Do you really want YOUR wedding to be a part of someones learning curve? They don't have the time or skill set to edit the images and give them the proper enhancements, color correction and effects that make them look stunning.

Without getting too technical, the newcomers to this industry usually don't have the high quality lenses that can shoot in low light, or they really don't have the experience in making the proper adjustments in low light or complex situations. Don't be Penny wise, yet Pound foolish in this area of your Wedding, Where it matters most!

The key to all of this is you need to hire a Professional, even if it isn't Roman Studios, hire a Pro. You will notice the difference.....for many years to come!

Here are a few things to talk over with a Professional Photographer before hiring them.

1. Do they do this full time? If not, you don't want a hobbyist or someone who shoots landscapes, they will be lost at Weddings, just because they take nice pictures of flowers, it doesn't mean they can quickly adapt to changing lighting conditions and constant changing social atmosphere at Weddings.

2. Ask how many Weddings they have shot? You don't want to be someones learning curve,

3, Ask if you can see a Complete Wedding Online! Many don't post their events to the public. Don't be sold on their "best" images on all of their promotional materials. Look for a large amount to get a real sense of their quality.

4. Ask if you can get a reference from a recent Wedding! There is nothing better than a quality referral from a happy customer. If they can't provide any recent ones, that could be a problem!

5. What format do they shoot in? It is best to shoot in RAW, this allows the Photographer the ability to capture all the data, not compressed like the Jpeg. This allows for greater ability to compensate and adjust your images without compression. It is best to receive final images in JPEG format AFTER they have been adjusted.

6 How is their attitude during these questions? If they are flustered or seem annoyed, how will they be on your Wedding day?

7. Do they have business insurance, a contract that spells out your agreement? Your transaction should be put in writing and you need to know if there is insurance in case they need to be liable for an accident.

8. Does the Photographer offer an Album, and do they help you in laying it out and making it? Sometimes they will do it for you, but how can they pick out your favorites? Or it is left off that the Photographer hands you a disc of images. Are they ALL edited corrected and enhanced or just a small number? Does it cost extra for them to be edited? How much? I have heard some photographers shoot and put them on a disc without ANY editing...never settle for that!

9. Do they work with Professional Labs, and album companies or are they printing from their home printer? You get what you pay for, but don't pay for that! There is a reason professional labs exist! Value is when you get a good deal for your dollar. Choose wisely.

10. (Now a question for you) Can you see this person being the type of person you would be comfortable working with before during and after the Wedding?

11) Who does their editing? Are they sending it out to another company? That's like doing a sketch and having someone else color and finish it! That is NOT our style.......we do it all, in house!

12) Can the Photographer also offer Video, Custom Invitations, Guest cards, or Award Winning Albums? Remember the Photographers are with you most of the day and the images should be what you look back on, cherished memories!

This process should be fun and exciting, finding the Photography style that best suits you. Ask these questions, and if you have any questions, please feel free to give me a call if you need further clarification.. We can work around your budget and you can be sure you will Love what you get! Give us a call!
