Richard & Cristina

Cristina & Richard (I saved this for you in case you need while I design)

Well, I am a hopeless romantic for certain.  I have photographed weddings (& other things) for over 10 years & I just never get tired of it.  I love Love.  Give me a good proposal story & I am squealing with giddiness.  I have watched Pride & Prejudice many, many times & still get that starry-eyed face when Mr. Darcy looks at Elizabeth & says, “You have bewitched me body and soul and I love, I love, I love you. I never wish to be parted from you from this day on.”  Wow.  So, yes, when I get to photograph a wedding, it is a joy. And I love photography so that really helps!

Some other things about me ~

+ I have a strong faith in God – Jesus is the King of my life

+ I went to Hollywood to be an actress when I was 17 – that’s when Jesus really got a hold of me!

+ I am not afraid of spiders, I pride myself in being tough enough to pluck them up & relocate them outside while all of the males in my house watch

+ I love music – Run DMC & old skool rap for running,  some Amos Lee for getting ready to go somewhere, Ella Fitzgerald for working on a design project, Bon Jovi & everything 80’s for cleaning the house, Matt Redman & Chris Tomlin for taking a walk & thinking – just to name a few

+ And I love to dance, I mean like really love it. I can barely hold back when I’m out running & a super good groove comes on — oh, no, here I go – shoot, I hope no one I know just saw me air drum

+ I adore old movies.  Some of my favorites:  An Affair to remember (unrealistic but still so romantic), The Quiet Man (such a crush on John Wayne) & Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner (way ahead of it’s time), Breakfast at Tiffany’s (a classic though politically incorrect these days – still Ms. Hepburn is so good)

+ I’m big into natural & do my best to eat healthy though I really love potato chips & Bit O’ Honey candies.  They’re the best & the worst!

+ I figured out how to make my own hair care products because I could never find anything to control my curly hair. It’s a little more tame but now I just embrace the white girl afro.

Okay, well, if we meet in person, I am a bit chatty but I’m also a good listener so feel free to strike up a conversation – I’m always in for a story or two :)

Richard doesn’t like writing about himself so I, his wife, have taken on the task.  I do think it’s important that there is some information out there about him.  Such as:

+ He loves his 1969 Chevy Camaro almost more than our kids.  His favorite smell is the interior of his Camaro .  He bought it when we lived in L.A. which is where his photography really took off.  See below.

+ He used to shoot a lot of old skool rappers – Snoop Dog, Too Short, Tupac (two of his photos are in the movie, Resurrection), Easy E.  He finally quit when the violence surrounding it became too much.  So, we switched it up to weddings – still stressful but not usually a life or death scenario going on.

+ Richard is that “right place, right time” guy.  He got in to photograph Al Gore & President Obama. Oh & even more notable, he photographed O.J. wearing “the gloves” just 6 months before the murders.  He was even subpoenaed to testify in the trial of the century for one of his O.J. photos – crazy, right?!

+ He makes incredible salsa. It is so deliciously potent.  We use it as our flu shot. Really. We have horrible breath but rarely ever get sick. It is so good that he makes it in mass quantities to distribute to his salsa followers.

+ Self-trained Hair Stylist – Much to the anxiety of our 3 boys, he has perfected his hair cutting skills over the years.  But now, they can pretty much order up what they want & Richard can deliver. (those early years were rough, I hid the clippers more than once)

+  He is an avid football fan & has loved the Raiders since he was a boy.  He is football thru & thru.  He know player stats, info about their colleges, the combine, the draft, all of it.  It’s impressive. He is known for setting up an X’s & O’s game plan for how we shoot each wedding.

+ He also loves God. Thank God!  I am grateful that I can rely on him to pray for me & our family.

Just a bit about Richard from the perspective of his Wife: Of the two of us, he is the funny one.  He can get people to laugh in the least likely situations which I love.  I count on him to make me laugh out loud at least once day, definitely good medicine. He is usually politically incorrect & makes no apologies for it. But he also has a strong sense of appropriateness & stands up for the underdog.  I’ve watched him go out of his way to help strangers in odd situations that most people wouldn’t go near. Richard is the only person I’ve ever known to make two citizen’s arrest. Because my husband is a huge sports fan, specifically football he always puts together a strong game plan for every wedding we shoot. I think he’s usually the X’s & I’m the O’s. It works, we know exactly where we are going to be during the ceremony & have learned to communicate well with referee hand signals. No, that’s not true but that would be kind of funny & also strangely distracting during someone’s ceremony. On our own Wedding Day, the NFL Draft was going on. I felt honored that he missed it to say our I Do’s. -really.   I would love to put a photo up of my tall, dark & handsome but he’s actually much better behind the camera. I don’t know what happens to him in front of the camera but he ends up, well, just not looking like himself.  Actually, I do have a few great shots of him but I have been denied permission to put any of them up. Maybe one of these days I’ll sneak one up here. He just needs to take the advice he gives: relax & just pretend the camera is not there :)
